How is Revolution Gelato different from normal gelato?
The simple answer is that we do not use dairy in our gelato. But there's more to it than that....
When we set out to revolutionize the ice cream shelf, we wanted a fabulous product that we could also feel good about eating. So we decided to put stylistic boundaries aside and just find what tasted best. What we ended up with is still closest in style to traditional gelato, but draws on other elements and our own philosophy as well.
We’ve combined the clean, intense flavor of gelato with the richness and creaminess of super-premium ice cream – all while using simple, healthier ingredients produced sustainably and with integrity.
Where can I find Revolution Gelato?

Is Revolution Gelato healthy?
This is something we’re really passionate about, and a part of the food system we hope to influence. Nutrition is a young science that has made significant progress, but is rife with gaps and misinformation – some innocent (eg., here), some not so innocent (e.g., here). The fact is there is still a lot we humans simply don’t know or understand, and it’s easy to draw false conclusions about specific foods or nutrients.
So our approach is to look at both traditional diets and the broad body of scientific research and draw general conclusions and trends. With that in mind, we believe the data to date suggest strongly that diets comprising minimally processed, plant-based foods with few added sugars lead to the best health outcomes. This is also known as “whole-foods, plant-based”.
Revolution Gelato is 100% plant-based with simple ingredients. Still, it would be a stretch to call it a health food since it does have added sugar (it is dessert!). But it is a healthier option when compared to many other indulgences:
A serving of any of our flavors contains 10-50% less sugar than every flavor of Talenti gelato (18-21g vs 23-36g)
A serving of any of our flavors contains 46-54% less sugar than a can of Coke (18-21g vs 39g)
A serving of our French Press Coffee gelato has 25% less sugar than a tall (12oz) Starbucks Caramel Macchiato (18g vs 24g)
A serving of our Full Throttle Vanilla gelato has 18% less sugar than a serving of Stonyfield Organic Vanilla Yogurt (18g vs 22g)
Ounce for ounce, our flavors contain 37% less sugar than a KIND Almond & Coconut bar (~19-22% vs 30%)

What are your features and certifications?
ORGANIC = Yep | Certified by NFC
We've been using organic products from day 1, and are excited to have received certification for our main line in 2018. Our local micro batch production (waffle cones, toppings, one-off flavors) is not certified but does still meet all the organic criteria.
Plant-based / VEGAN = YEP | NON-CERTIFIED
Everything we make is 100% vegan. We use no animal products whatsoever and never will. However, our gelato is made on shared equipment that is also used to process products with dairy and egg. The equipment is fully cleaned & sanitized prior to use for our gelato.
KOSHER = YEP | CERTIFIED Pareve by OU
All of our main line gelato is certified kosher pareve by the OU – look for the symbol. Our local micro batch production (waffle cones, toppings, one-off flavors) is not certified.
GMO-FREE = YEP | NON-CERTIFIED
By definition all organic ingredients are non-GMO
GLUTEN-FREE = YEP | NON-CERTIFIED
Our gelato has no gluten ingredients, although it is made on shared equipment that is also sometimes used to process products with gluten. The equipment is fully cleaned & sanitized prior to use and we conduct in-house testing after each run to check that it is below 10 parts per million.
If you come across us at festivals or bring us on for catering, everything else we make is also gluten-free except the waffle cones, cookies, and cookie dough which are made with wheat flour. Because we make those on-site, we are not at this time able to guarantee that there is no cross-contamination. If you have a sensitivity you will be fine. If you have celiac or a serious allergy, you would be best avoiding it at these events.
CARBON FREE = NOT YET | NON-CERTIFIED
From the outset and as we grow, we are continually looking for means to reduce and offset our environmental impact. Merely having a vegan product goes a long way, but we hope to move down the path toward zero impact as we move forward.
ETHICAL/SUSTAINABLE CERTIFICATIONS = WHERE APPLICABLE AND POSSIBLE
Fair-Trade, Rainforest Alliance, Utz, Food Alliance, etc...we’re lumping these together as there are so many with slight differences, but they all get at more or less the same thing: treating the people and the land well, so that they can both survive and flourish. They’re most common with tropically produced agricultural goods (e.g., coffee, chocolate, vanilla), and we seek them out when we can. But it’s also something we evaluate on a case-by-case basis: often there are producers who meet or exceed the criteria but can’t afford the certification. Check out our Ingredients page for more detailed information.
